Having played a fictional Wonder Woman on-screen, Gal Gadot is now on a mission to show the world some women she considers to be real-life superheroes.

She’s doing it via her new series National Geography Presents: IMPACT with Gal Gadot.

The six-part short-form documentary series follows the powerful stories of resilient young women around the globe. Each approximately 12-minute film focuses on, as Gadot says, “ordinary people” doing “the extraordinary.”

The women featured in video come from very different backgrounds across Brazil, Puerto Rico, Michigan, California, Louisiana, and Tennessee—yet, they are all connected by their selflessness, determination, and commitment to improving the lives of the people around them.

Gadot says that all of the women featured come from difficult circumstances, but yet they use this experience to their advantage. “Whether it’s violence, poverty, trauma, discrimination, or natural disasters; it fuels them. It gives them more power to dare, to dream, to change, to speak up and to really make a change in their communities”

The thought of making an impact herself has never been far from Gadot’s mind as she explains, “Growing up, I remember thinking, ‘How can I change the world? How can I do such a thing? I’m just one person.’”

This feeling persisted early in her career, says Gadot. “I used to give interviews when I’d just started acting or modeling, and I remember thinking to myself, ‘Who’s going to listen to this? They don’t care about what I have to say.’”

But, she says then, “slowly and gradually I realized that people actually listen.”

It was only after she hit the big screen that she really felt she could make things happens. “After I’d done Wonder Woman, I felt like I had such a big reach and I want to use my reach and my platforms to get to as many people and shed light on amazing, incredible stories.“

She adds, “I’m a mother of two girls and my belief system is very close to Wonder Woman’s belief system. I’m all about love, and compassion, and peace, and positivity, and try to make the world a better place as much as I can, and that was a very, very natural fit for me.”

Speaking about the women featured in the docu-series, Gadot says, “I keep on calling them my ‘Women of Wonder,’ because they are the true heroes. I go to [the] set [of Wonder Woman] and I get my costume and sword and everything, and I fight, but it’s make believe. They’re on the ground sweating and doing all they can to really make the world a better place.”

Gadot says that doing this is her dream, “My vision is really to create this amazing movement of people that can say, ‘If she can do it, I can do it, too.’ I wanted to make this thing something that would bring such a positive energy and change to the world. It sounds like cliché, but I’m talking from the bottom of my heart.”

She feels like she’s accomplished this with IMPACT as she says, “When you see all these women together, and in each of the stories on their own, you realize that you can make a change. You can affect people’s lives for the better.”
