Watch CeeDee Lamb make Dallas Cowboys history with stunning touchdown against Vikings

FRISCO – CeeDee Lamb doesn’t want this to sound like he’s a diva. He has no time for the negative connotation of being described as that.

But the Cowboys wide receiver is making a point to his team: Get me the ball.

“I have to make it clear, I’m not stingy,” Lamb said after Thursday’s practice. “I’m here to help. I don’t necessarily think you take anyone in the first round and not have them help the team, and that’s point point-blank period.”

After the Cowboys were beaten, 42-10, by the 49ers, Lamb went on a fact-finding mission. He spoke with coach Mike McCarthy, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, receivers coach Robert Prince and quarterback Dak Prescott about why the offense was slogging through.

He also spoke with his fellow receivers. Lamb wanted to know what’s the problem with getting him and others the football in productive ways. It wasn’t a hard ask, because most if not all playmakers seek answers for what ails the offense.

“So just let me do what I can do to produce for this team,” Lamb said. “And I know all my brothers in the locker room, I got their back and I say that with confidence.”

Lamb had four catches in the 49ers loss. The next game, against the Chargers, Lamb caught seven passes for 117 yards.

The Cowboys figured it out.

When he reaches 100 receiving yards in a game, the Cowboys are 9-3. Former coach Wade Phillips is noted for saying those are baseball stats. Some stats are worth mentioning.

When Lamb is involved, whether he starts his routes from the slot, as an outside receiver or placed in motion, the production in the offense increases.

“Just betting on myself because those opportunities come,” he said. He added when talking about fellow receivers Michael Gallup, Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert, “I’m grateful to them, they’re all threats.”

Why Cowboys’ Micah Parsons is speaking out against unfair bashing of NFL stars

He spoke with reporters with a relaxed and playful attitude with the understanding while he’s not yelling and screaming like some former No. 1 receivers around here, he is serious about helping.

While reporters were discussing with quarterback Dak Prescott regarding his own abilities to use his legs more to contribute to this offense, Lamb talked about his own ways.

Yes, you want more of Prescott outside the pocket, especially if it helps, but in truth, and as he joked, he’s never been that fast.

“It’s something I’ve been solid at in my career, getting out of the pocket and being able to throw on the move, guys can work and get open,” Prescott said of using running out of the pocket, while not dismissing his receivers, to help the offense. “It’s another weapon.”

The main weapon is Lamb as he enters an important time of his career.

Next fall he’s got a base salary of $17.9 million, part of the Cowboys’ picking up his fifth-year option. The expectation is Lamb will get a contract extension.

He is a No. 1 receiver, right?

Right?

Do the Cowboys’ believe that?

If so, then Lamb needs the opportunity to show it not only to them but to other teams if he’s allowed to enter free agency in 2025. That’s two years away, so Lamb is just hopeful he and his fellow receivers can contribute more.

“I feel like we all win when we all touch the ball,” Lamb said.

We’ll see if that continues Sunday against the Rams.
