When Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green first met, it was sparks – not love – at first sight.
“I liked him right away,” she told the New York Times Magazine in November about the first time they met, while filming the sitcom Hope & Faith.
“Everyone was around the monitor watching a scene, and Brian accidentally touched my leg. I remember literal electricity shooting through me and out me from every direction,” she says. “It was like magic.”
But the couple’s six-year long relationship hasn’t been without its ups and downs.
Together since the actress was 18, Fox, now 24, and Green, 36, got engaged two years after they first met but called off the wedding before deciding to get re-engaged 16 months later. The two finally made it official last weekend during a romantic Hawaiian holiday.
Relationship troubles, their 12-year age gap or buzz that she was getting close with her Transformers costar Shia LaBeouf last year aside, Fox, seemingly knew from the start that the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star was The One.
Since their electrifying meeting back in 2004, Fox has only had eyes for Green – despite what her maneater reputation might otherwise convey.
“I’ve only been with two men my entire life: my childhood sweetheart and Brian,” she recently told Harper’s Bazaar U.K.. “I can never have sex with someone that I don’t love, ever. The idea makes me sick.”
What she has been looking for, however, is a partner who isn’t afraid to be chivalrous because “to me being respectful is a big deal.”
“I like someone who has a super gentle spirit and energy,” she told PEOPLE in September. “I’m really gentle, and so I like a boy who will treat me that way.”
Green, who is now married to one of Hollywood’s hottest sex symbols, says he’s actually in love with the not-so-glammed-up Fox. “I like to see her in the morning,” he once told PEOPLE. “It doesn’t matter whether you put a bunch of makeup on her or not. She always looks hot. I stand next to her and it’s like beauty and the beast.”
Throughout their nearly half-decade long courtship, there has been another man in the actress’s life: Green’s son Kassius, 8, with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Marcil.
A stepmother “to the fullest extent,” Fox told Harper’s Bazaar U.K., “I have looked after Kassius since he was 3 and he has no memory of life without me. I am responsible [for him] and I’ve never struggled with that, from bedtime stories to the school run.”
As for expanding the family with her longtime love, Fox says there’s a very good chance she’ll give Kassius a sibling – if all goes according to plan.
“No one believes me when I talk about this, but I’m really maternal,” she said in the March issue of W. “I worry that because I’ve always wanted [kids] so much, as the word goes sometimes, I won’t be able to have them, even though I would be able to provide them with such an amazing environment.”
