Shakira is shaking things up in a big way. The singer, 45, just dropped her brand new song “Te Felicito” with artist Rauw Alejandro, and the single’s music video had fans on Instagram dropping their jaws.
“YAAAAᴀssSSSSS I STREAMED IT SO MANY TIMES,” one listener commented. Plus, Shakira (plus her super sculpted abs and legs) is clearly living her best life in the vid. She’s been posting sneak peeks all week leading up to the song’s release—and the #fitspo is major.
For starters, there’s this bright purple, cutout look:
Plus a sheer, fluffy robe that puts Shakira’s long legs on full display.
Clearly, she doesn’t skip leg day. But what does her workout routine look like, anyway? For starters, the singer sweats it out with trainer Anna Kaiser six days a week. Kaiser’s signature dance interval workouts (part of her AKT method) help Shakira build up her endurance so she can shine on stage.
“Shakira is really focused on consistency with her workouts—the strength, the cardio, the stamina, the power, the flexibility, everything,” Kaiser told Vogue. A 90-minute dance interval workout combines cardio, strength, and vinyasa flows “with few breaks.”
“She will make some of the movements her own, adding flair with her hips,” Kaiser added. “Even though it’s super intense, she’s still having fun!”
Some days, Kaiser changes up Shakira’s workouts, depending on her rehearsal schedule. “Yesterday she had a really long dance rehearsal in the afternoon, so we just focused on an hour of pure strength in the morning. [Some days] she has even longer days of physical dance rehearsals, so she just started with something very short: 20 minutes,” she explained to E! News.
Strength training, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) circuits, and swimming are all great options on a dance-heavy day, she added.
Diet-wise, Shakira focuses on filling her plate with lots of veggies and plenty of protein. Breakfast might be eggs or avocado, topped with tomato, olive oil, and sea salt. After that, the singer makes a smoothie packed with plant protein, berries, and either greens or green powder, Kaiser told E! News.
By the time lunch rolls around, Shakira is ready for some fish with a side of vegetables or a salad. Later in the afternoon, she might have a quick bowl of soup—artichoke, leek and eggplant, and carrot ginger are her faves, paired with some cucumbers dressed with lemon and salt.
Dinner is warm fish and even more vegetables, or her favorite entree: Pork chops. And, for dessert, Shakira reaches for a piece of low-sugar dark chocolate.
Mental health is a huge part of the singer’s wellness routine, too. Kaiser helps Shakira work on being more mindful by encouraging her to put her phone down more often. “@theannakaiser rules: turn off your phone until after the workout!” Shakira captioned an old Instagram video.
It’s all about staying focused on what matters, Kaiser told E! News: “She’s filming new music videos, she’s coming out with new music, she’s still really involved with her philanthropy schools in Colombia. There are just so many things happening at one time.”
“Plus she’s a mom, she has kids and she wants to spend time with them too. There’s just not enough hours in a day. So we have to refocus. Refocus, realign, and find ways to try to be present.”
Yep, I can get on board with that.
