ANDY BEHRENS: I will just say that the guy at the top of my list– and this is a theoretical problem because all of my Patrick Mahomes teams lost. But I’d be pretty freaked out. Again, mine all lost. So I don’t have to worry about this.
If he had a bad match-up, I would actively be looking for alternatives, I think, which is a wild thing to say. It’s almost more problematic because he has a great match-up. He gets Cincinnati, and we’ve seen– like, we’ve seen that defense picked apart right. This should be a blow-up spot.
And Patrick Mahomes, with just a normal receiving corps, would probably be my QB1 this week. I don’t think I have him in the top five, which feels wrong. It is a dreadful group of receivers. He has few answers at his disposal. He hasn’t had a week that tilts your fantasy match-up since, maybe, week seven. He had that 400-yard gain, right– like a 4-touchdown game.
Since then, hasn’t really been a fantasy difference maker. We’ve talked about this before when people were complaining about Lamar Jackson. And it was like, man, Patrick Mahomes is doing the same stuff. But it was really– it was never on him.
Just as it was never on Lamar, I don’t think it’s necessarily on Mahomes, right? We’ve seen numerous instances this year where one of his receivers will turn like an easy catch into a pick 6, or into an interception.
It’s just an outclassed receiving corps. They’ve turned kind of a bit of a developmental rookie into their wide receiver 1.
MATT HARMON: It only takes but for so long for you to be in crappy situations for bad habits to start seeping into your game. And I think that is where my alarm bell is at with Pat Mahomes right now, is that I do think that there’s just a lot of bad habits there, man.
