Thailand has between 3,000 and 4,000 elephants. Around half live in the wild in national parks while the others are domesticated. And recently, a passerby captured the dramatic moment several elephants grazed on sugar cane when their truck stopped beside delicious treats at a busy junction.
The giants of the animal kingdom were travelling through Nakhon Sawan, northern Thailand, on a heavy-load lorry when it stopped at a red light on Saturday. Quickly sniffing out their favourite meal, the elephants stuck out the trunks and helped themselves to a nearby driver’s crops. Sunisa Champangern filmed the ‘very funny’ moment the jumbos enjoyed as much of the snack as they could before the lights turned green. She said: ” I’ve occasionally seen elephants being transported before but it was a coincidence that they stopped next to a truck with food on.”
The two elephants reached out almost in unison as they both seemed to have the same idea. Sunisa added:” They were reaching across to grab a snack from the other lorry. It was carrying sugar cane from a farm. I think the driver will have a hard time explaining why some of the crops are ᴍɪssɪɴɢ. I thought it was very funny to watch.” Other road users watched on ᴀɢʜᴀst as the five ton ᴍᴀᴍᴍᴀʟs stʀᴜɢɢʟᴇᴅ to pull the sugar cane off the truck. As the lights changed to green they managed to sneak a few more canes on board with them, to keep as a snack for the road.
