Sidney Crosby continues his excellence at the NHL level, and has now officially passed Wayne Gretzky for most point-per-game seasons in history.

He’s in the record books – again.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby has added another incredible accolade in his Hall of Fame career, officially passing Wayne Gretzky for the most point per game seasons in NHL history (20); Gretzky had 19.

He accomplished the feat during tonight’s game on the road at KeyBank Centre against the Buffalo Sabres, scoring in the 1st period for his 26th goal of the year.

Crosby parked himself in the slot and took a pass from the corner from teammate Rickard Rakell and beat goaltender James Reimer with a glove-side shot for the historic tally.

The Penguins initially fell behind 2-0; Crosby’s goal cut the lead in half.

Having already missed a pair of games this year, Crosby can only play in a maximum of 80 games.

Earlier this month, earlier this month, Crosby spoke about the challenges that he and the Penguins were facing in what has mostly been a difficult year.

There’s always challenges every year that you go through. Obviously, this year with the position we’re in, it’s difficult. But you try to embrace the challenge you’re in, whatever it is.

I’m just trying to go out there every night and play well.

Regardless of whether the Penguins make the playoffs or not, one bright spot in the year is, as it always historically has been, the play of Crosby.
