Scarlett Johansson admitted that her son Cosmo’s latest life stage seems to be taking her by storm.
During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, the actress was asked if she’s “tackling the ‘terrible twos,’ ” to which the Marvel star replied, “The ‘terrible twos’ are more like tackling me, like actually, physically.”
On Monday at the God’s Love We Deliver’s Golden Heart Awards, the mother of two shared that parenting her son at the toddler stage has “definitely been an adjustment,” since her husband, Colin Jost, has headed back to Saturday Night Live following the conclusion of the WGA strike.
“It’s definitely an adjustment in the household.” The 38-year-old actress explained, “That schedule is so crazy, but it’s always exciting to see.”
A beaming Johansson shared her excitement about the return of the series, “I’m really excited for all the writers and all the performers at SNL. They’ve been desperate to get back to work doing what they love.”
She continued to applaud her husband’s costars and the SNL writing staff, “Those guys are incredible. And we need them now more than ever.”
When Johansson was working on Wes Anderson’s film, Asteroid City, the couple’s son was still an infant, and the mother would bring Cosmo to set.
“I actually wasn’t popular, it was just the baby,” Johansson told PEOPLE. “People were excited to see the baby, not me. They’re like, ‘Oh, it’s you. Where’s baby?’ ”
The actress revealed that her family spent time with her in between takes. “My family came [with me to set],” she recalled to PEOPLE, adding, “My husband and baby did because we had just had a little baby.”
“Some people had partners that came up,” Johansson continued. “Most people were alone, I think. A lot of people had children too, but maybe a little bit older.”
“I just had a tiny, tiny baby,” she said, adding that Cosmo was like the “set baby.”

In September on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Johansson shared the meaning of Cosmo’s name and the special connection between the moniker and her 8-year-old daughter’s name, Rose Dorothy.
“They are both flowers,” Johansson told Clarkson. “Not a lot of people make that connection. Cosmo is a really sweet little flower that comes in different shades of orange and yellow.” She added, “That’s why my daughter liked it too.”
While Johansson recently joked about battling it out with her 2-year-old son, she’s previously admitted when raising her daughter Rose, the toddler stage proved as a challenge back in 2017.
The actress joked on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast that raising a toddler was like “being in an emotionally abusive relationship.”
“It’s really tough,” she said. “I remember my daughter when she was 2, I said, ‘This is great. I don’t know what everybody is talking about.’ And then she turned 3, and it’s like being in an emotionally abusive relationship.”
“It’s just so intense. No reasoning,” Johansson continued. “Very intense emotional swings and like, so bossy and adamant, and it’s just crazy,” adding she was “up and down constantly.”
The Black Widow star shares daughter Rose with ex Romain Dauriac, whom she divorced in 2017.
Johansson and Jost got engaged in May 2019 after two years of dating, and they wed in an intimate ceremony in October 2020. The pair welcomed their first baby together, son Cosmo, in August 2021.
